how to knit a snake

As we know, all knitted fabrics are made using two basic stitches, knit and purl. I wanted to set out some basic knitting instructions as a refresher so here it is.

Different combinations of knit and purl stitches, along with more advanced techniques, generate fabrics of considerably variable consistency, from gauzy to very dense, from highly stretchy to relatively stiff, from flat to tightly curled, and so on. Although knitting may be done with ribbons, metal wire and more exotic filaments, most yarns are made by spinning fibers. We're all crazy busy, and finding time to make hand-knit gifts might seem completely impossible.

When it's time to move on to a more difficult stitch, try out the party wrap pattern. The upper red course is purled into the row below and then is knit, consistent with garter stitch. These are all good choices for that very first project.

If the fibers are first aligned by combing them, the yarn is smoother and called a worsted; by contrast, if the fibers are carded but not combed, the yarn is fuzzier and called woolen-spun. Then, loop the yarn around the needle and put the stitch through onto the second needle.

While knitting patterns can offer suggestions for design and color ideas, it is ultimately up to the artist to decide what the final product what look like. Take your time and understand the information on this site and you will be able to knit anything you want.
